WWII music survives, UK DL charts and musings from the writer.

Think of all that music, art and talent silenced and suppressed during the dark days of WWII. What would this century look like or feel like if that tenebrous time hadn't obliterated a whole era's worth of art. Not a new concept or question of course. But the idea of being able to peak into the minds and hearts of many of the great musicians of that time has finally been given a bit of life.

Now, according to an article published March 17th on Newsday.Com, an Italian musician named Francesco Lotoro has accumulated enough musical artificats, if you will, from that time that a museum at Rome’s Third University will be offering on a display a library consisting of more than 4,000 papers and 13,000 microfiches. Taken from such varied spots as Czech labor camps to Japanese POW camps this certainly will give a glimpse into the minds of some of the most anguished minds on the 20th century.

In other news:

I feel like I’ve neglected you British readers so here are the top UK downloads according to The BBC’s Radio 1:

(1) Kaiser Chiefs-Ruby (Universal)

(2) Gwen Stefani ft Akon-The Sweet escape (Universal)

(3) Take That–Shine (Universal)

(4) Fray-How To Save A Life (Sony BMG)

(5) Justin Timberlake-What Goes Around Comes Around (Sony BMG)

(6) Mike–Grace Kelly (Uiversal)

(7) Nelly Furtado–Say It Right (Universal)

(8) Camille Jones-The Creeps (Universal)

(9) Gossip-Standing In The Way of Control (Back Yard Recordings)

(10) Kelis ft. Cee-lo-Lil Star (Emi)

All of this proves two things: 1) That the Brits’ music taste is almost as bad as America's and Canada’s and that Universal had a pretty good week.

In other news the single from Arcade Fire Windowsill is the coolest and best new song ever so I would advise you to check it out.

The Pogues had to cancel the first of their three shows at Roseland Ballroom in NYC because frontman Shane McGowan needs to recover from a stage fall (that’s when you know your idols are getting old). Smashing Pumpkins and The Killers signed up for The Virgin Festival in September in Toronto. Other acts will include Bjork and a bunch of emo punk bands. And finally, reports out of SXSW in Austin, TX (see Spring To article from the 11th) is that The Stooges rocked out on the last day of the festival which isn't surprising as Iggy Pop is still in better shape than you or I am but is surprising because they had Sum 41 play on their last album which is totally not rockin’.
